Android Market

"Play, Watch, Read, Discover What's New", it's the Slogan of the new revamped Android Market for devices running Android 2.2 and higher. The new design is sleek but somehow it looks like it got some inspiration from the tile design of that of Windows Phone 7.

Besides the design, the team have included additional features including Videos, Multiple APK Support, Books and better categories. "New interface to give you new ways to find great applications and games, purchase books, and rent movies.", as said by the google mobile blog.

Now let's talk about some of the new features

New categories/sections
There will be new categories/sections of the Android Market. We’ll see some more top charts like – Trending,  revamped Top Free, revamped Top Paid, and a curated Editor’s Choice list – making app discovery easier than ever.

There will also be a new Editor’s Choice list, which includes apps that Google's Official think is good enough to be put in the spotlight – this is a big deal, because it basically makes Google a “Kingmaker” for certain apps.

Multiple APK Support
With multiple APK support, added later on, developer can now upload multiple versions of an APK for a single product listing (application), with each one addressing a different subset of the customers. These APKs are complete, independent APKs that share the same package name, but contain code and resources to target different Android platform versions, screen sizes, or GL texture-compression formats.

So when we download or purchase such APK apps, Android Market chooses the right APK to deliver according to the device like Android phones, or tablets or to say in simpler word Android Market automatically chooses the right version of application for your device.

Movies

With the Videos app, rent movies (Support only for USA) starting at just 1.99$ there’s no more waiting for downloads or syncing. Simply sign into Android Market with your Google account, and you can rent movies from anywhere – the web, or your Android phone or tablet – and start watching instantly. You may also download movies to your device so they’re available for viewing when you don’t have an internet connection.

Google Plus is now open. Get a taste of it

Friday, July 22, 2011

Google plus is now open to all which means now you can get a taste of the amazing social networking site without any friend requests or invitations. Yes that's true, grab you account immediately. http://plus.google.com

In a bid to get a share of social networking sites the latest product of Google, The Google + project, has had 20 million unique visitors since its launch, including five million visitors from the U.S. A as estimated by Web-traffic watcher comScore Inc. The estimates are based on a “global measurement panel” of two million Internet users, similar to the approach Nielsen uses to measure television ratings. Though the users are less compared to 720 million of facebook and 200 million of twitter, Google got this mark on around 3 weeks with its limited trial period where only friend invited people could join.

With Google+, Google is aiming to match rivals like Facebook, which used personal information posted by its members to create a multibillion-dollar advertising business that lets marketers target specific demographic groups or people with certain interests. Google also hopes the service can become a home for brands and celebrities. And the data Google obtains about people’s interests could also help it change the way its Web-search engine works.

The site is gaining popularity among the social networkers with its simplistic approach including the Sparks feature where we can control our feeds of different interests and the "Circle" concept which is a hybrid feature including parts from twitter followers and the facebook friends and the best of all "Hangouts” feature, that lets people do “video chats” using their computer webcams, speaking to numerous friends simultaneously.

In addition to adding numerous features over time, Google will eventually allow software developers to create “social” games and other applications that would run on top of Google+, similar to Facebook’s successful “platform” for applications. And with rumored $100+ million share on Zynga, you should not be surprised to play Empires and Allies or Cityville on your google plus account in incoming days.
